Hi All,

One of the big features I have been working on lately has been a manual TCG simulator for the Pokémon TCG. The inspiration for this would be something like DuelingBook on the Yu-Gi-Oh! side. I'm proud to announce that the first iteration of this is now live on the site!

Battle Table Simulator

I had an idea for this for a long time, and the early version of this would have been the completely solo offline deck playtester we had on the site. I was never happy with this as it wasn't truly what I wanted to set out to do. Over the last few weeks, I've been slowly working on overhauling this playtester, and as I progressed, it eventually turned into this manual simulator!

As a side-note, this does mean that our old playtester has been sunset and this new system has taken its place. It's far more accurate than the old system anyway.

We're in the early stages of this and while I am sure there will be a plethora of bugs to be found, I am quite happy with the current performance of it. Here are the current feature set:

  • Play solo, against a rudimentary bot or online against other players!
  • Match making system built in.
  • At the moment we offer a casual matchmaking mode with thoughts towards a ranked mode eventually.
  • This is a MANUAL simulator which means you will need to draw, apply damage counters, declare moves, etc. The system has all of this functionality built in but there are no automatic systems in place (nor will there ever be). Again this would be very similar to what DuelingBook does for Yu-Gi-Oh!.
  • Built-in event-driven system. Every move is logged and shown on the event sidebar. This allows full and fair play between each of the players. For example if you decided to have a sneaky look through your deck, it would be logged in the event sidebar for everyone to see.
  • Chat system built-in.
  • Spectator mode and spectator listings.
  • Built in replay mode to save your replays and share them with others. Replays are a step-by-step system where you can go through the entire match in detail or simply have it auto-play.

Here is an example of our replay system in action:

Future Roadmap

There are plenty of features scheduled to be added, including but not limited to:

  • Ranked mode
  • Better dashboard system
  • Match browser for non ranked matches
  • UI improvements to the play area
  • Potentially look into mobile support (this is purely desktop so far)
  • Judge/Moderator system for ranked matches

I hope you all enjoy this new ambitious feature! I am setting myself up for a lot of future work with this but I am happy to do so! I hope it works out like I intend it to.

If you have any bugs with this system please report them on our bug report forum: https://pokemoncard.io/forums/bug-report
