Alolan Vulpix w/ Palkia & Kyurem

Intro

This decklist is built around the new Alolan Vulpix VSTAR from Silver Tempest :)

While I don’t plan on seriously trying to take many wins with this deck, I do want to make it as good as I possibly can. If you have any recommendations, feel free to let me know!

You have a typical Kyurem-Palkia list, the one that took 3rd at the Regional Warsaw piloted by Patrick Landis, with a little fella to spice it up a bit. The main thing to remember is that Vulpix is incredibly vulnerable to

Overview

You have a typical Kyurem-Palkia list, the one that took 3rd at the Regional Warsaw piloted by Patrick Landis, with a little fella to spice it up a bit. The main thing to remember is that Vulpix is incredibly vulnerable to gusting and getting easily OHKOd since it has a lower amount of HP.

Gameplan

You have 3 main attackers, and then a backup with Greninja. Kyurem and Palkia are pretty well understood for their threat potential and the sort of damage they can deal. Vulpix, however, is strong in to most Ability-using mons. The main exception is Duraludon because of the shred from its attack, but Vulpix can still fare well against things like Arceus and Palkia. Do not try to bench Vulpix without either a Leafy Camo Poncho or a certainty that the other player has no more gusting available.

Strengths

This deck will look decently good into decks that incorporate Arceus or Palkia, or multi-prize decks that can’t easily deal with low bench sizes like Mew. Popular decks that can’t hit Vulpix or deal with its friends are Palkia-Intel, Arc-Goodra, Hisuian Zoroark, Kyurem-Palkia, Mewtwo VUNION, and Blisstank.

Weaknesses

Duraludon shred’s through Vulpix’s defenses. The other thing that this deck struggles with is consistently walling with Vulpix. While the Poncho denies gusting to the active, it does not deny the active from being swapped out.

Potential Changes

Glaceon VMAX: This is more of a rogue inclusion. It supports the game plan Vulpix has of just being a wall, but that was the main issue with my previous list, being it committed to a single idea and had no other outs.

Frosmoth: While it does provide infinitely reusable free attachment of energy from hand, 1-2 Kyurems alone is enough in most instances.

Final Thoughts

I genuinely don’t know if this deck is any good. The last deck I had put together was way too reliant on splitting the focus between being either in a Palkia or Vulpix deck mode. This current list offers a lot more opportunity for playing into the matchup with a total of 3 different primary attackers. Honestly, I’m just happy I get to play with the lil guy :)
