[Base-Fossil] Lickitung / Water

Also known as the hostage deck, because of the potency of confusion in the Base-Fossil format. Lapras is notable for being able to effectively utilize confusion, while lickitung often cannot, because a heads flip on tongue wrap cures the opponent of confusion.

The result is that confused pokemon with high retreat costs often cannot attack and are stuck in the active until a trainer card is spent to cure confusion.

It's unusual to partner Lickitung and Lapras together. The benefits are that you can maximise hp to reduce your opponent's ability to take prize cards (80 is outside of pluspower OHKO range), as well as counter the popular Magmar that can cause trouble to other Lickitung/Scyther cores. Note that Lapras is also good at taking down opposing Lickitungs, although fighting Scyther is a struggle.

This deck has good surprise factor. Some opponents believe they are facing rain dance. Others will underestimate this deck, as Lapras is not commonly seen on its own.

Decks playing Dodrio have a clear advantage against this deck. Scyther can also be a modestly successful attacker that the deck isn't well-equipped to deal with.

Tech options:

Muk to solve the dodrio matchups. It has a positive effect, and it will take a while before they can find a gust to ko it. My recommendation would be a standard  2-2 line, and no additional search cards.

Psychic package. Mixing in a few psychic energies to support a small psychic engine. Might consist of cards like Mew, Psyduck, Mewtwo and Mr. Mime. Lapras can only be fed with water energies, so keep a large number of water energies. Energy Retrieval lets you get the energy card you want at the right time late in the game.

On a similar note, 1-2 Grass energy to get access to Scyther's Swords Dance attack.

Mr. Fuji can always jell well with Chansey and Scyther. It acts like a scoop up that also preserves the energy cards attached, but it can only target the bench, so it works for cards with simultaneously high attack costs and low retreat costs.
