BUG BOX w/ Yanmega, Galvantula, Beedrill, & Scizor

This build is specifically for the current Pokemon TCG Live (Beta) Expanded Format - May 2026

Don't underestimate The Bug Catcher. You might just get STUNG!

This deck was initialy inspired by Yanmega ex and how it can quickly charge up Beedrill V's Swarming Sting attack. I was then inspired to build a deck around The Bug Catcher trainer from the video games. Though this might just look like a silly fun-themed deck - it can still win!

This deck has beaten Gardevoir ex and Regidrago VSTAR before.

This deck was initialy inspired by Yanmega ex and how it can quickly charge up Beedrill V's Swarming Sting attack. I was then inspired to build a deck around The Bug Catcher trainer from the video games. Though this might just look like a silly fun-themed deck - it can still win!

This deck has beaten Gardevoir ex and Regidrago VSTAR before. (Hint: Use Scizor! I once knocked out a Regidrago V on my second turn with a single attack from Scizor. Gardevoir ex can also be knocked out the same way in the late-game.)

*** First Turn: Energy Acceleration ***

Joltik is the preferred Pokemon to start with in the active spot. But the deck can still succeed without Joltik. A benched Yanma can be your energy accelerator - when it evolves to Yanmega ex.

IF YOU GO FIRST
Turn 1: Have Joltik be your active Pokemon. Attach an energy to it. Bench one or two Yanma and a Beedrill V or a Scyther. 

Turn 2: You can either -

[1] Joltik - Have the active Joltik use its Jolting Charge attack and attach energies to your next attackers like Beedrill V / Yanmega ex / Galvantula ex. You could even attach energies to a Joltik, as it could evolve into Galvantula ex next turn to attack with Charged Web or even Fulgurite. Will your opponent chase a Joltik and use up one of their Bosses / Guzmas for it? OR

[2] Galvantula ex - Evolve the active Joltik into Galvantula ex. Attach a second energy to it. Attack with Charged Web for 220/230/250 damage (damage dealt depends on damage mods like Pokemon tools or if your opponnent's Active Pokemon is a V/ex). OR

[3] Yanmega ex - Evolve a benched Yanma into a Yanmega ex. Retreat your active Pokemon. Attack for 210/220/240 damage (damage dealt depends on damage mods like Pokemon tools). With the effect of Yanmega ex's attack, move energies to your next attacker - like to Beedrill V, another Yanmega ex, or to Galvantula ex. Again, you could even attach energies to a Joltik. Evolve it to Galvantula ex next turn to attack with Charged Web or even Fulgurite. Will your opponent chase a Joltik and use up one of their Bosses / Guzmas for it? Especially, with a Yanmega ex on the active spot?

IF YOU GO SECOND
Turn 1: Have Joltik be your active Pokemon. Attach an energy to it. Bench one or two Yanma and a Beedrill V or a Scyther. Use Joltik's Jolting Charge attack to attach 1 Lightning energy to a Yanma or Joltik and 2 Grass + 1 Lightning energies to a Beedrill V. 

Turn 2: You can either -

[1] Galvantula ex - Evolve your Joltik into Galvantula ex. Attack with a Galvantula ex. OR

[2] Beedrill V - Attack with a Beedrill V. OR

[3] Yanmega ex - Evolve a benched Yanma to Yanmega ex. Attack for 210/220/240 damage (damage dealt depends on damage mods like Pokemon tools). With the effect of Yanmega ex's attack, move energies to your next attacker - like to Beedrill V, another Yanmega ex, or to Galvantula ex. Again, you could even attach energies to a Joltik.

*** Aurora Energy: Adds More Attack Options ***

Save it for a timely Punishing Scissors attack from Scizor, or for a timely Fulgurite attack from Galvantula ex.

The discard effect of the Aurora energy has synergy with Thorton. Discard something like a Mega Heracross ex and Thorton into it in the late-game.

*** Scyther & Scizor: The Pivot and the Hidden Menace ***

Scyther is great to bench at any point. It has no retreat cost so it can be your pivot throughout the entire match.

Then, when the moment is right, use Hilda to find Scizor and Aurora energy. Attach Aurora energy to Scizor and attack with Punishing Scissors. Scizor is a disurptive menace as it can knock out your opponent's 2-prizers with one or two hits, and it can mess up your opponent's prize map. Your opponent will either [1] Boss or Guzma around Scizor (but this leaves Scizor as a future threat) or [2] they will knock out Scizor but mess up their prize map. 

*** Miscellaneous Tips ***

• Mega Heracross ex - Don't expect to put it in play in every match. It's situational. It works best when you have your stadiums in play. It's very useful as a tank and for out-milling your opponent's deck. Try to only use it for those two situations and, if you can, attach a Bravery Charm to it.
  
  It's actually good tech against other mill decks as it can one-hit KO your opponent's milling Pokemon while, at the same time, you discard their resources.
  
  
  You can consider replacing Mega Heracross ex with another card (e.g. Volcarona V).
  
  
  Consider this combo with Mega Heracross ex: Move energies from Yanmega ex to an undamaged Basic Pokemon (e.g. Joltik), then, use Thorton on the Joltik to change it to the Mega Heracross ex.
  
  
• Kricketune V - Don't expect to put it in play in every match. But if you do, try to play it towards the late-game and with a Bravery Charm attached to it. It's basically Mew ex but in bug form. Mew ex is probably better but Kricketune V is here to fit the bug theme of the deck.

• Boss and Guzma - There's only one Guzma in the deck since you have Beedrill V. Beedrill V can attack your opponent's benched Pokemon.
  
  
• Super Rod and Energy Recycler - You have two energy recovery cards. Use them! Don't feel like you have to hold off using Energy Recycler just because there isn't 5 energies in the discard.
  
  
• Crispin - Can charge up Galvantula ex for a same-turn attack. 
  
  
• Megaton Blower - I've tried out a few different ACE SPECs and Megaton Blower ACE SPEC seems like the most useful one. You could also consider Unfair Stamp ACE SPEC instead.
