Which era’s rules should this table use?

This controls opening turns, Trainer restrictions, mulligans, retreats, Special Conditions, and KO sequencing. Modern is selected by default.

WotC / Base–Neo 1999–2002 First player draws and may attack; classic setup, retreat, and Confusion rules. EX era 2003–2007 First player skips the opening draw, may attack, and cannot use a Supporter. Diamond & Pearl–HGSS 2007–2011 First player draws and may attack, but cannot play Trainers, Supporters, or Stadiums. Black & White 2011–Nov 2013 First player draws, may play Trainers, and may attack. XY–Sun & Moon Nov 2013–Feb 2020 Coin winner chooses the starting player; first player draws and uses Supporters but cannot attack. Sword & Shield–modern Feb 2020–now Default Current rules: first player draws, but cannot use a Supporter or attack on turn one.
