Charizard/Delphox Standard Format Tag Team

Hello there! This is my first time uploading a deck and I believe that this is one of my most uniquely refined decks I've been working on. I'll explain how to use it along with what its strengths and weaknesses are.

Hello there! This is my first time uploading a deck and I believe that this is one of my most uniquely refined decks I've been working on. I'll explain how to use it along with what its strengths and weaknesses are.

First things first, I want to talk about the deck burning and starting with your hand. Charizard allows you to burn through your deck very quickly using its ability Battle Sense. Prioritizing charizards FIRST are always a must as it will help you get through your deck a lot faster to ensure that you can maximize your discards for both Serena and Leon. Starting with a potential fennekin is still completely viable in this case, due to the ability to look for support cards. Either look for a Professors research or a Marnie if you want to preserve the cards in your hand, or look for an Arezu if you have the baby pokemon on bench and are looking to build them. The ability to look for cards is fennekins specialty, keep this in mind.

Snorlax is another great way to farm for cards, thanks to all of your cards mainly discarding your hand, you're able to really maximize gourmandize very well. Putting him in there to tank hits for a rare candy/evolution building save is incredibly useful. He can also help you after a marnie shuffle or any other potential sticky situations. Focus on your evolutions as much as possible with your baby pokemon the entire start. If you only start with a charizard V, begin looking for ways to farm new cards in your hand or your bench. I'd suggest placing an Air Balloon on your Charizard V to allow maximum rotations incase things get tricky. Now that we know how to begin your hand, now lets move on to the momentum.

Progressing through the game: When you have charizards in play, always ensure to maxamize your discards with Battle Sense to get rid of Leon and Serena as much as possible. Having two charizards is more than enough each game with proper rotations of your pokemon. Magma basin is also a crucial stadium to have on play as MUCH as possible. This will allow passive farming on all of your pokemon in exchange for 20 damage on your pokemon. This may sound a little sucky in some situations, but this is more beneficial for all of your pokemon to ensure faster building against decks that have quick momentum. This will especially monopolize on your Charizard VStar. Having him damaged by magma basin will increase his attack to 230 Base. Adding a choice belt if you didn't need an Air Balloon can an optional buff of 260. This will ensure fast building for your vstar if you need someone with a high base health to tank hits, but it will also allow him to dish out high damage consistently.

Now that there are those techniques for momentum, what about the Delphox? The Delphox is an incredible Meta Breaker if used well. Delphox will only ever need 1 Energy. Which is incredibly easy to build into and will never need more unless certain situations arise. In this case, if you fight a Lugia Vstar Deck they are relatively heavy on energy. If they build even slightly into their bench, you have the ability to take out the Lugia in one hit thanks to Delphox's special attack Energy Crush. This is especially helpful against Calyrex farmers, or anyone that uses Arceus to farm energy quickly. This attack does require two energy, but it is still incredibly cheap and you can still use her in one turn quickly if you need to, thanks to the usage of magma basin. Of course, Delphox for one energy can also use Flare Parade. This attack does 60 damage times the amount of Serena's in your discard pile, which means you MUST have at least one Serena in your discard pile to do 60 damage. Which is why I mentioned farming for Charizards is best, since he has a base attack of 100 without Leon's.

From there you should be pretty well setup to have proper momentum with your Charizards and enough damage with your Delphox's. You can always save your Vstar power for 310 for Vmax pokemon such as Mew Vmax, or save it for big threats on the field that need to be removed. The cost of 2 energy will be lost for your Charizard Vstar, but that will be super easy to build back into thanks to Magma basin if you ever need to rotate him to bench. Make sure to not burn through your deck too fast! As some people may be patient and will try and ensure that you run out of cards!
