Chien-Paolkia

This is an version of my Chien-Paolkia deck, updated to what I use on PTCGL. My stadium count is kinda meh, but other than that this deck works pretty well, if we don't get an awful hand, and even if we did, our opponent could get unlucky too!

Main Strategy:

Try to lead with Chien-Pao if possible for the Shivery Chill ability, but if you can't try to lead with a single prize with the exception of Manaphy. If you have to, leading with Palkia can be an option for the Rule the Region attack in order

Main Strategy:

Try to lead with Chien-Pao if possible for the Shivery Chill ability, but if you can't try to lead with a single prize with the exception of Manaphy. If you have to, leading with Palkia can be an option for the Rule the Region attack in order to search for Mesagoza in hopes of getting the Bibarel or for draw, the Baxcalibur to go with your rare candy, or any number of other crucial pieces to your setup. On your first turn (try to go second), use Battle VIP Pass and Iono, along with Radiant Greninja draw to get a benched Frigibax (if you lead with one, bench one or retreat) as your main priority, followed by Chien-Pao/Radiant Greninja (Radiant Greninja can be helpful to search out earlier in order to make the most informed decisions, such as Irida for Radiant Greninja and Battle VIP Pass), Bidoof, and Palkia. It's also to note that this order can shift under certain circumstances, mostly depending upon your hand. I wouldn't Irida for a Hisuian Heavy Ball on your first turn (unless you drew Battle VIP Pass) just to get Radiant Greninja. However, do not underestimate it. Hisuian Heavey Ball is a tech specifically for when Radiant Greninja is prized. Radiant Greninja being prized can be the difference between a win and a loss. Try to use concealed cards whenever possible in the early game, but also consider using energy to retreat into Chien-Pao ex before that in order to thin your deck with Shivery Chill.

Your next turn, you will want to, ideally, get a Baxcalibur in play, as well as a Bibarel for draw, a Chien-Pao ready to attack, and possibly a Palkia VSTAR ready to support in times of crisis. You should also discard some water energy on cards like Ultra Ball and Earthen Vessel to use a Superior Energy Retreival to get 4 back and guarantee a KO on anything!

A few notes for the first 2 turns, Radiant Greninja is your best friend, as it can draw cards, and be a threatening attacker all in the same. If people forget to bench a Manaphy, you might end up taking advantage of Moonlight Shurikan to take a lead in the prize trade, especially against Roaring Moon. Iono can be used an an emergency hand refresh if you have a bad hand and no hope. You can also Iono before using Concealed Cards to maximize your draw, especially with a Chien-Pao ex active.

Mid-lategame, Bibarel loses its value as your hand gets full and can be easily discarded by Avery. Always discard Lumineon to Avery if you can (but don't bench it to discard it, only bench it if you need a supporter). Palkia VSTAR is more valuable if you haven't used Star Portal, but if you have it can still be worth keeping around as a backup attacker with more bulk (bulk is useful against Zard, Iron Valiant, Roaring Moon, Gholdengo) that isn't weak to metal (again, Gholdengo). Radiant Greninja is still important for emergency draw with Concealed Cards and a surprise Moonlight Shurikan to wipe your opponents out of the game.

At my level on PTCGL, Roaring Moon is by far the most common matchup, and Chien-Pao suffers from being perfectly withing Calamity Storm's 220, and Palkia can be easily KOed by Frenzied Gouging. Roaring Moon is a very turbo deck, but in case they fail to get a stadium out, a Moonlight Shurikan can be devastating with low HP Roaring Moon ex, Morpeko, and various Pokemon ex that can be 2 shot by Moonlight Shurikan, or another Roaring Moon, preventing it from using Frenzied Gouging without KOing itself.

Zard is also an intersting matchup. Almost always, they will attack first, and the often have the capaility to Boss up a Frigibax, so have 2 in play. They can't take an OHKO on Chien-Pao their first turn, so OHKO them first. Try to take down a Charizard before Entei if possible, and stay away from Pidgeot (unless you run a variant with Iron Hands in which you would moonlight shurikan the Pidgeot and then Boss it up for an Amp You Very Much). Be mindful of your opponents' pokemon's weakness during this matchup, as fire types are weak to water, and even though Chien-Pao is an ice type, the TCG depicts it as a water type, changing it from not very effective to super effective. Palkia is also a powerful attacker here, as it can take KOs on bulkier fire types more easily due to weakness without discarding energy (I have seen a Zard deck run Toedscruel (Paradox Rift) and I couldn't boss it up so I lost), and withstand a later game Zard hit.

There are some other matchups where there are things to note, but be aware of the math constantly with this deck, and aware of your energy count. When I get to take the game-winning KO with Chien-Pao, I like to discard all of my energies for extra damage that doesn't matter just to be funny and have a higher number in the postgame stats just for funsies.
