The list is well built. Honestly the biggest weakness of this deck is probably the drought of rare candy, since you can afford to lose 5 Gengar and can utilize 6, which ends up not mathing well with your 4 rare candy, though I'm not sure exactly how to combat this. There are quite a few ways but they all ruin the consistency one way or another.
Azelf (Unified Minds) Is objectively better than Uxie. Has slightly more HP and attacks for free with Valley. Galarian Corsola (Rebel Clash) or Sableye (Lost Thunder) work too, but not as well as Azelf.
Blacephalon (Cosmic Eclipse) Does wonders for this deck. Could potentially completely replace Uxie or Azelf completely as it is still a one turn use if dimension is in play, and taps 4 damage counters even without the condition.
Hope I helped! 🥰
Actually my bad I did not read you description clearly, nvm everything, the only thing I added that's valid is maybe 1 copy of blacephalon, disregard the bs abt azelf and the others.
Enhanced hammer - Wash/Mist energy seen in expanded lugia and various water decks like Palafin garbodor can result in a near instant loss.
Field blower - some stadiums and tools are just dead annoying, or similar reasons as enhanced. (blower also counters your deck quite a bit since most likely you're gonna only get one Uxie hit off, the rest will depend on math from your tool)
Max horror - yes you are using crystal and stretcher, but including less basic is actually compensated with crystal, not taken less advantage of. With how synergistic horror is, maxing is definitely worth considering.
Guzma - I get it, you're running random recievers and can't afford to unluckily bump into a guzma, but personally, the pros outweigh the cons. You NEED more gust for this deck, they will likely pull up a pokemon that you haven't spell tagged multiple times and that only adds a world of issues if you can't keep up with the prize/consistency trade due to an inability to KO the pokemon they set up against you.
Instant loss vs alolan raichu btw which is unfortunately crazy popular. Mostly because you can't use bench barriers or your strategy falls apart; you also have very low HP pokemon; but then again, every deck has their own kryptonite so I honestly wouldn't change anything abt this. Consistent single prize decks also pose threats due to the fact that you are running stage 2s which are inconsistent by nature.
Like slash said, this deck is VERY well built, with the engine of choice clearly noted and usage of random receiver well planned.
Battle Compressor I forgot to mention, this is specifically for a game store's expanded tournament, and they allow a 6 card sideboard, which would include, among other things, a Pokemon Ranger, a Guzma, an Enhanced Hammer, and a Field Blower. Thanks for the suggestion though. Horror energy is not searchable with Crystal which is why I only run 2. Horror only provides psychic energy while attached to a pokemon, not while in the deck, so Crystal cannot search it. Yes, Field Blower hard counters this, which isn't super helpful. I could use Radiant Alakazam to offset this, but that disables Green's Exploration. I'm probably going to workshop a version using Mismagius (SIT) with the 8 extra damage counters so that isn't as much of an issue. Alolan Raichu is popular in expanded, and decently consistent, but in reality, those expanded donk decks are fun to pull of, but not insanely consistent. I just have to stick to the game plan and keep moving.
Siegislash thank you for the suggestion of Blacephalon, but 4 damage counters isn't a lot, and the point is to only use that T1, and hopefully have enough damage counters to last the game. I don't want to use Blacephalon for that reason, and Dimension Valley is specifically to enable Gengar, which is why I think I can get away with only 3. Having a limit of 4 Rare Candy is an issue, and I originally thought of using Dowsing Machine to potentially get an extra use, but I didn't have the deck space, and had to cut Guzma because of the Random Receivers.
I just realized that I can run a full count of Horror to offset the issues with Spell Tag for a couple of turns, and use Energy Loto to replace 2 Fog Crystal, sacrificing some consistency for more resilience.
Ah tournament rules, I see. May I ask how that works?
"compensated with crystal" meaning like, you can search for the basic energy already so why bother adding so many. Horror not being searchable is never an issue as long as you have 2-3 basic psychic in the deck to make energy searchable. You should realize this if you test it.
You might also realize that most opponents will only have abt 2-3 pokemon in play when you are going second and striking, so Uxie is 85% chance not gonna be enough to last the game. You have to rely on exterior factors such as horror and tag. (a good reason why Uxie actually barely buffs Gengar in the first place)
Mismagius would mean running 2 evolution lines which is inconsistency on top of inconsistency, so personally I wouldn't, expecially considering that mismagius would typically be used for actual spread instead of 3 counter OHKO, but ig that is an idea though.
Yes I completely agree with you that you should just put the Alolan raichu thing aside (please don't keep reading if you don't wanna hear anything else)...
but that thing is actually disgustingly consistent despite being a donk. During testing, I approximate an 80% ish chance it works out exactly as planned, 15% chance it at least works and deals 200 ish damage spread due to inconsistent energy discards, and the remaining 5 percent resulting in complete failure. This is the decklist I used, would appreciate possible feedback if you have any. META Alolan Raichu - PokemonCard Honestly I fing hate that archetype and would never bring such unholiness to a tournament though. (PLEASE JUST BAN ELECTRODE GX AND ALL CRINGE ASS EXPANDED DONK DECKS WILL DIE, ban item lock vileplume too while your at it, thats not a real deck thats just pain in the form of a ptcg deck)
I agree with Compressor on the horror energy thing, it's more reliable than a tool, too, since field blower is more popular than enhanced hammer.
For blacephalon, when I mentioned first turn, I only meant that as a replacement for the proxy uxie, which was a misread. 😭 Blacephalon realistically is mostly for that one turn where prize cards align, since then, opponent might have a 5 bench, knowing that ur Uxie are out of play and they won't suffer from benching. Blacephalon will instantly tap everything accordingly, or you could OHKO a benched dedenne that has been spell tagged. But still, I could be wrong about how helpful it can be as I'm not experienced enough to tell without testing.
Battle Compressor NOOO but I wanna build my CRINGE ASS EXPANDED DONK DE...ok I'll stop 😭
Hey all, I'm building a very similar deck for dinnertable games, but I was hoping to compare
https://pokemoncard.io/deck/gengar-no-rulebox-101449
I usually wouldn't post to advertise like this but since my deck uses the same strategy but with very different core cards I was hoping I could get some Feedback as I am still pretty new to deckbuilding and I don't know the meta as well. I have a lot of questions about the way this one is built.
You have so little energy and essentially no way to recycle them, can you really afford so little? I understand searching them out isn't an issue but once they are attached and discarded for any reason, what are you supposed to do?
I get Dimension valley just to retreat Uxie out when you're done with it, but wouldn't Old Cemetry be better for the extra damage stacking? or is fighting over stadium control just too impractical for the format?
What do you do if you prize both your Uxie's? I know odds of that are low, but not at all unheard of
Instead of the stretcher, would it be worth running just 1 tulip to get 4 cards out of your discard pile? Or is it really just not worth it?
Battle Compressor You're right about Uxie not being enough which is why I run so many Spell Tag. I still need energy, since I plan on attacking 4-5 times per game. The thing about Mismagius is that it adds another 8 damage counters after being knocked out, and can be used T1 going second with Dusk Stone, so it actually isn't that bad, except for the inconsistency. I'm just going for something for the next expanded mid-off at my local game store.
Monodoof Dimension Valley allows me to attack with Gengar for 1 energy instead of 2, not retreat for free. If Uxie doesn't get KOed T2, I'm using its attack again. The odds of prizing both Uxie is only .84%, and I don't have enough basics for a Hisuian Heavy Ball, and Gladion clogs up my Random Receivers, so it is just a small chance of an autoloss. Tulip is VERY bad for this deck, since I use Random Receiver to find Green's Exploration, I could run into a Tulip instead, which would be very bad. Stretcher is small, but mostly to recover a Gengar, Gastly, or Energy in case of bad prizing. Also, your deck has negative consistency and near zero speed. It works well for kitchen table formats, but it could be so much faster and more consistent.
Tangent dude thanks so much for the reply!
100% I misread Dimensional Valley, that absolutely makes everything make SO much more sense to me now!
I don't know what you mean exactly when you say that my deck has negative consistency or zero speed, but I do understand that it is comparably much slower and less consistent than yours.
Also as a quick side note, I recently built an Eeveelutions deck for my wife which has an Espeon that has Solar Revalation
https://pokemoncard.io/deck/simple-eeveelutions-102766
Basically I just wanted to mention it because I believe it would probably counter Creep Show Gengar since it would essentially just make everything immune to the attack effect. Not sure how relevant it would be, but I thought about it at the time :)
I wish you luck at your tournament games and I hope you'll let us know how it goes! I myself don't really plan on ever playing this game competitively (although who knows, life is crazy maybe someday).
Also forgot abt Dusk stone, ig it isn't horrible if you put it that way, its just that the whole engine that needs to be reconsidered, which is honestly the main issue.
Good luck on your tournament. Lmk how it goes.
Also Monodoof Tangent is completely right about all those suggestions, your deck is structured like a standard deck, inconsistent, slow, and could use a lot of work. Yes it's for kitchen table, but as Tangent said, it COULD be a lot better, so why not.
Battle Compressor Alright, what specifically should I change in my deck? I don't mind swapping out any supporters or items. I just want to keep the Mismagius and Gengar core for the sake of the theme, and I would like to use Old Cemetary still for the theme as well. Besides those things I am completely open to any suggestions!
Also bro I keep misphrasing stuff I meant you only need 2-3 energy SO THAT the rest of your energy can be Horror. You will have 6-7 energy total.
Battle Compressor I've heard similar comments before about my decks being structured like standard, which I don't entirely understand what that means. I guess it might just be because I lack experience ad game knowledge since I'm still relatively new (technically returning player, I used to play like 15 years ago but even then only very casually)

Battle Compressor Alright dude, point taken. Your analogy isn't really fair, It's just a card game my guy, and I'm just asking for advice on optimizations for my casual low power deck I play casually.
I am trying to be serious though, if you really think the core cards are too inconsistent then I won't even bother.
Monodoof Yo bro chill its a joke
Monodoof Battle Compressor I'd suggest talking about Monodoof's deck in the comments of that deck.
Tangent apologies again for discussing mine in your comment section, he did comment in mine after.
Thanks again for your suggestions!
Monodoof of course. Ping me in the comment of your deck if you want me to take a look at it ever.
