Compiled from my collection for kitchen table games specifically against the Monkey Business deck.

The cards (Pokémon) were picked by their cuteness or coolness. 
There's a lot that could be changed in this deck depending on the opponent's deck and the skill level of the players provided you also have the cards. This is simply the version that has given us the most balanced experience.
However, I suggest you let the beginner choose some cards they want to play with and build a deck around that.
