Malevolent Stance SGLC (Semi Gym Leader Challenge)

SGLC (Semi or Sorta Gym Leader Challenge) is a Singleton format, no Rule box Pokémon, and cards after Sun & Moon can be used for this format as well. SGLC doesn't have type restrictions like GLC, so using mix types is encouraged to cover weaknesses.

As the name suggests, this deck revolves around cycling through cards in this dark themed deck as quickly as possible. There are 3 Pokémon available that will allow you to do this (Hisuian Samurott, Liepard, Wyrdeer). Wyrdeer is a low risk support Pokémon that uses its Hurried Gait ability to give a free draw card. As a Stage 1 Pokémon, it can also pressure the opponent with a strong 120 attack should each player have the same number of cards. You will have the advantage  by either having a strong attacker ready to swing large, or a large hand with the cards needed to bring out the big attackers. Liepard uses the ability Trade to draw 2 cards with the drawback of discarding a card from your hand. By getting Dark Energy into the discard pile in preparation for Dark Patch to build your bench Dark type Pokémon. Hisuian Samurott is a monster that does 20 more damage for each energy attached to all of your Pokémon, meaning that with just 3 more Energy in play (besides Hisuian Samurott), Dark Mastery can deal a whopping 180 damage to your opponent's Active Pokémon. It also takes advantage of Wily Stance to draw 3 cards per turn with the drawback of discarding 1 card from your hand. Drawing a lot of cards can increase the number of Dark Energy in your hand which fuels Galarian Moltres's ability Malevolent Charge. This ability allows the user to attach up to 2 Dark Energy from their hand onto that Pokémon when it is played onto the Bench. This serves to strengthen Hisuian Samurott and Galarian Moltres at the same time. Galarian Moltres (while is a Basic) is preferably used in the mid to late game. Galarian Moltres's attack will do a small amount in the early game, but when the opponent has taken a few Prize cards. With your opponent taking just 3 Prize cards, Galarian Moltres can deal a whopping 170 damage with Fiery Wrath. The attack does 20 damage plus 50 for each Prize card taken meaning a final blow can deal a maximum of 270 damage. Only Machamp from Lost Origin can take a single hit like this. Darkrai functions similarly to Hisuian Samurott with its attack Vortex of Darkness, with the difference being it only is based on Dark Energy attached to Darkrai itself. Its ability Darkness Guard gives is a mini Pot Helmet of 20 reduced damage to fend off weaker Basic Pokémon from putting too much damage on it. A combination of Pot Helmet with Dark Energy attached to Darkrai can reduce attacks done to it by 50. Hydreigon can also be used as an attacker and support Pokémon that can attach any number of Dark Energy from your hand to 1 of your Pokémon. 130 can knock out most Basic Pokémon and 2 hit KO most everything else. Hydreigon is best reserved as an Energy Engine. Hoopa Unbound is another excellent Basic Pokémon that can either be a self building attacker dealing 100 damage with Tyrannical Hole, or an energy engine early game that can build up the Bench with Hand of Djinn. Finally Hisuian Sneasler is another support Pokémon that allows all of the user's Pokémon to have 2 less Energy required for its Retreat Cost as long as it is on the Bench, with Carry and Climb. This deck only has Pokémon with 2 or less Retreat Cost, so effectively no Retreat Cost.

Wishful Baton and the EXP. Share provides  great resources for Energy preservation should a Pokémon get knocked out. Dark Patch is another great tool to get Dark Energy onto Dark Pokémon on the bench. Peonia is a great Supporter card that allows the player to find Hisuian Samurott which is vital to this deck. Energy Recycle System serves two functions; the first one is to grab a Dark Energy from the discard pile into the hand for energy attachment and the second one is to replenish your deck with 3 Dark Energy. Players must be cognisant of drawing too many cards too quickly as decking out is easy to do.
