Gyarados helps you thin your own deck out for his attack, but you also want to get as many of him setup as you can.

This is the version I've settled on for now. It's not great, and usually needs at least an extra turn compared to most decks to really be any kind of effective.

Tangent  I know this deck has too many energies which can easily give me dead starting hands, so what cards would I need here to make this more consistent?

I wish the magikarp attack would let you put him onto your bench

Wrong Magikarp, but I love the idea. I like the attack T1 strategy, but you need more support. I'd suggest using Green's Exploration as an engine for this, possibly sacrificing a T1 attack for consistency. Evosoda and Dive Ball can help with that consistency as well. You will also want high counts of gust items like Prime Catcher, Counter Catcher, and Pokémon Catcher mostly to guarantee knock outs on smaller Pokémon.

Specifically, replace Nest Ball with Dive Ball. Cut 2 Buddy Buddy Poffin. Play Rescue Stretcher. Consider diversifying your supporters and dropping random receiver. Green's Exploration would be good, but you might want to run Radiant Greninja, so Irida would be your supporter there. Also Forest Seal Stone only works on Pokémon V, so drop it. Battle Compressor is good to increase damage. You also don't need that much energy, since you discard all of the extra cards, so you can make room for consistency tools pretty easily.

If you want I can make a mock-up deck in case you want to take a look at it.

Here's why this deck doesn't work.

You can get Gyarados up turn 2, you might even get all 4 set up on your second turn. But then, you still have to thin your deck out.

you basically have to choose between being able to do damage and setting up, and if your opponent has iono or N or even just KO's one of your Gyarados, you will fall behind and either run out of Gyarados' or just not be able to KO your opponent's attackers. You need to draw into at least 5 water energy to hit the typical benchmark of 180 damage with distilled blast, but typically that won't happen until you've already milled half of your trainer cards, which doesn't leave you with enough to get more than maybe 1 Gyarados back set up, especially since you will almost always top deck into the water energy when you don't want it. And no, Radiant Greninja doesn't solve the issue. I think it's better to just try a different Gyarados.
