Here's an idea for a format:

From any one release, select a type. You must construct a 40-card deck using only Pokemon, Trainers, and Energy from that release. No rule box mons.

Awesome concept but the single type concept is a little TOO limiting imo. Gonna try a modified concept of this that allows for pokemon of all types. If that already exists, I'd love to know about it.

I think the fact that it is limited makes it more restricted. Some sets will be more advantageous for some types rather than others. For example, Rebel Clash Unfeazent in this format is nuts.

i tried it with the no element restriction and it really opens up deck options so you don't need to run huge amounts of energy.

some support mons help with deck consistency in a big way. ie. Crown Zenith decks would be able to run Girafarig which allows you to draw two cards for one colorless energy. if I ran mono metal, my draw options are limited to just Digging Duo and Trekking Shoes.
