Welcome back to the TCG. I like the deck idea, but it doesn't really synergize well enough. You were right on the money about Stunfisk... its not a very good card in the current meta with stuff like Amazing Yveltal, Radiant Zard, Sableye, etc. running around. If you wanted to use it to full potential, you'd likely want to combo it with other damage counter-centric Pokemon: Mismagius (Silver Tempest), Mimikyu (Lost Origin) and Radiant Alakazam (Silver Tempest) come to mind, as well as Hisuian Typhlosion VSTAR (Astral Radiance). You could keep in Cursola if you wanted, though that is a rather slow and frail card as well.
Considering Mawile is your favorite Pokemon, focusing in on Mawile might be a better option. Mawile on its own is not a great attacker though, only hitting 180 normally and 210 with choice belt. Sadly, the current meta has such inflated HP and attack values that a card like Mawile struggles to work. My most effective Mawile build was a more standard Arceus VSTAR (Brilliant Stars) build which allowed Arceus to function as a attacker and energy acceleration battery for Mawile, with Flying Pikachu VMAX (Celebrations) functioning as both free retreat to proc Mawile's attack condition and as a second attacker/pivot. I ran a ton of switch cards: Cross Switcher (Fusion Strike), regular switches, Escape Rope, Balloon, Bird Keeper (Darkness Ablaze) etc. Switch Cart (Astral Radiance) is not ideal for Mawile as it only works on basics, rendering it useless once you get the VStar down.
Trying to keep in theme with your original deck idea, I would do the following:
-Cut the 4 Stunfisks, the 2 Snorlax V, the baby Mawile
+Run 2 Gourmandize Snorlax, some Miltank (Astral Radiance) or Jynx (Silver Tempest)
-Instead of the Minccino line, you can consider the Kirlia line, which does the same thing AND also gives you access to Gardevoir (Silver Tempest) as both energy accel and secondary attacker.
+To capitalize on damage counters you can run Old Cemetery (Chilling Reign) to help fix some math and synergize with a psychic deck like this.
+You definitely need more ball search, so get some form of Quick Balls/Ultra Balls/Battle VIP Pass/Great Ball/Evolution Incense etc etc in there.
Quick addendum, I meant Gardevoir (Chilling Reign) over the Silver Tempest version.
A big thanks for all the suggestions and guiding! Originally I had Hisuian Typhlosion in the deck (as well as VMAX Dragapult, because Dragapult V also benefited from switching if I recall correctly), but it felt like the deck was doing too many things. Now, I can see what you mean where it doesn't feel synergistic enough. I think I'll take the approach of making a Mawile-focused deck, both because it's the pokemon I enjoy more and because I don't want to fight endlessly to let Stunfisk live a single hit (as I'm seeing more and more how vulnerable it is).
A lot of the cards you recommended, I didn't even know existed, so again, thanks! If you happen to see this, I have one question to cap things off. How does VMAXing work as a mechanic, is it just treated as normal evolving (albeit prize card reward is greater)? Or can you only VMAX a pokemon once per game, like I think a few other past mechanics had? And then the difference between VMAX and VSTAR?
VMax is a normal evolution mechanic. Both Vmaxes and VStars are basically "Stage 1" V Pokemon. VMaxes award 3 prizes if they are KO'd, and generally have huge amounts of HP and damage output.
VStar pokemon are different as each come with a VStar ability, and VStar abilities can only be used once per game (like GX attacks before them) as they are extremely strong. They generally have lower health than VMaxes but only award 2 prizes. They also generally have lower damage output but this is not always the case. Overall they are much stronger than most VMaxes except for Mew and Duraladon.
