Hello~! Been having a lot of fun with pumping up Mega Venusaur ex as the only attacker. Using things such as Hero's Cape , Growing Grass Energy , Wally's Compassion and Teal Mask Ogerpon ex you end up with a 520 Mega Venusaur ex being fulled healed every turn with Wally's Compassion and ready to attack again via Teal Dancing the energy you've gotten from Wally's Compassion and Solar Transferring it back onto your Mega Venusaur ex

General Strategy

In an ideal world, you would:

Turn 1: Go first, have Bulbasaur  in the active attach Hero's Cape  , Teal Dance as many Teal Mask Ogerpon as possible on the bench. Or if you go second to use Celebi 's Traverse Time attack to grab your Forest of Vitality and your Mega Venusaur ex line / Teal Mask Ogerpon ex .

Turn 2: Forest of Vitality into Mega Venusaur ex and use it's ability Solar Transfer to put all the Grass Energies onto Mega Venusaur ex to attack with Jungle Dump.

Turn 3: onwards, use Wally's Compassion to heal off their attacks and reattaching the energy Wally's Compassion  made you put into your hand, using Teal Dance and Solar Transfer them back onto Mega Venusaur ex . Remember Wally's Compassion followed by Teal Dance does count as a draw engine, so don't be afraid to get the Mega Venusaur ex in the active asap and let it tank the hits while you draw into the grass energies.

If you were against a Cornerstone Ogerpon or Crustle you would use Tapu Bulu instead of Mega Venusaur ex however you would still setup a Mega Venusaur ex on your bench to Solar Transfer the energy from the Teal Mask Ogerpon onto the Tapu Bulu . The Switches are for the higher retreat cost associated with Mega Venusaur ex and Tapu Bulu . Additionally, if you go second, don't be afraid to use Bulbasaur's Bind Down attack to prevent retreat such as their  Psyduck or Shaymin , it offers a different stall state to Budew , which might give you a turn or two while they find a way to swtich. Remember that Team Rocket's Articuno prevents the effect of Bind Down from your Bulbasaur

Cards such as Noctowl  and Hoothoot are currently being tested to see if it can help mitigate the following weaknesses.

Deck based on PokemanBwham

Weaknesses

The downside to this deck is the hard setup you have to do by finding Forest of Vitality and the 3 line of Bulbasaur > Ivysaur > Mega Venusaur ex which sometimes feels you are using Lillie's Determination to lottery your way to the line. Of course the other supporters of the deck such as Dawn help with finding that line, however the 3x of Wally's Compassion and the Boss's Orders copies sometimes makes you whiff since those are more after setup cards.

Card Selection Logic

  • Judge and Special Red Card (formally 2x Judge) used againsted decks that could reach Mega Venusaur ex crazy max HP of 520 in this deck - Alakazam and Team Rocket's Honchkrow . That's 26 cards they have to have in hand for Alakazam and 8 of ANY Supporters they can discard with Team Rocket's Honchkrow . It's pretty obvious when they are setting up the one big attack as it's the only true way to get rid of the Mega Venusaur ex if you have Wally's Compassion  ready in hand and a 4x Teal Mask Ogerpon bench. Additionally, I like to move all my Grass Energies onto the Mega Venusaur ex to prevent them from taking out energy here and there through gusting methods (Boss's Orders , Team Rocket's Giovanni , Prime Catcher , Hariyama )
  • Tapu Bulu is for Crustle or Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex .

I have been feeling some sort of way about all the copies of Bulbasaur , Ivysaur and Mega Venusaur ex that I keep drawing so I've opted for a lower count of them for more consistency to find the rest of the general stategy combo.

Prize Checking

When prize checking, we're looking to see if the following are in our prize cards:

  • Hero's Cape
  • Meowth ex
  • Forest of Vitality count

As you can see, it's mostly our one or two of copies of cards that we search for to know what strategies (aka lines) we have to get out or enable certain situations to win. There is a lot of room for error for prize checking with this deck, and overtime you'll just memorize all 60 cards to not think about it. However this priority list should be a good head start.

Update: After a lot of play testing, I have determined that 1x Celebi is enough for this deck. Partly because I only own one in real life. Secondly because the Celebi in exchange for a Grass Energy feels more natural to have to get going. The odds of the Celebi in the prize card is quite low, and I'd rather lean into the deck's strengths than worry about covering every weakness. For this same reason you don't see me trying to tech around Flareon ex or Moltres . Though I have seen some pretty cool ideas where you use Jumbo Ice Cream while you move around the energy to heal off energy - I think it would make the deck have too gimmicky opposed to leaning into "build big boy, keep him alive". It forces your oppoenent to find constant Boss's / Prime Catchers / Giovanni's or lose.
