Not Your Average Gardevoir EX! (hint: this one's better)

Deck of the day 4/17/2023 (I think that was the day, right? Or was it the 16th? Help!)
At first glance
, this may seem like your average Gardevoir EX deck: Use Gardevoir ex (Scarlet & Violet)'s Psychic Embrace Ability to charge up Pokémon like Zacian V (Celebrations) and Gardevoir (Chilling Reign) to deal massive damage, with Gallade (Astral Radiance) offering Supporter search consistency, Mew from Celebrations getting you item cards early on, Manaphy (Brilliant Stars) preventing your bench from taking damage, and Kirlia (Silver Tempest) offering draw consistency with Refinement. Oh, and you can make a weird play with Kirlia (Chilling Reign)'s Mirage Step attack.

But this is not your ordinary Gardevoir EX deck.

1) Galarian Articuno (Evolving Skies) is vastly superior to Cresselia (Lost Origin), which is what Gardevoir EX decks normally play.

2) Defiance Band (Scarlet & Violet) has been extremely useful (IT REALLY HAS), as all Gardevoir EX decks often give up one or two prizes early on. Choice Belt doesn't increase damage against Pokémon EX, and by late game, you usually have enough energy to slam down 300+ damage, without a Tool card damage boost.

3) More Professor's Research (Professor Sada) (Scarlet & Violet) than you normally see, because it adds a very solid amount of consistency, and Klara (Chilling Reign) and Pal Pad (Scarlet & Violet) can recall most things you throw away.

4) I cannot see how more Gardevoir EX decks do not play a copy of Jacq (Scarlet & Violet). This card can grab you Kirlias, Gardevoirs, Gardevoir EXs, and Gallade, and has been extremely helpful, especially because Gallade (Astral Radiance) can grab it.

5) Mesagoza is a nice gap-filler, when I have nothing else to get me what I need, I tend to have it. You can get rid of it with Worker right after you use it if you need to so that your opponent cannot use it, if you want.

6) Collapsed Stadium is not played enough with Gardevoir EX, and can discard a damaged Zacian V for you if you need it.

7) Thorton is often played in Gardevoir EX decks, but I cannot over-emphasize its power, I use it almost every other game.

Although the differences may seem few, they really make a vast difference in how this deck plays. I'm considering replacing the Battle VIP Passes with Nest Balls, because you can play Nest Ball throughout the game, and you're not betting almost everything on a turn 1 Battle VIP Pass draw. Also considering removing Manaphy (Brilliant Stars) in favor of another Celebrations Mew (can't card ID Celebrations Mew because it's a mini expansion, sorry), which is an idea I got from AzulGG. I may remove the Emergency Jelly, I need to see how much consistency it adds, I'm just reluctant because sometimes the Jelly comes in clutch, and how cool is it to win a game with a card with "Jelly" in its name. It seems like a good card. "I feel it in my Jellies." -Detective Pikachu

Two more things: I'm planning to replace Klara with Super Rod once Paldea Evolved comes out, and I do not believe in Banette ex (Scarlet & Violet) (sorry!).

Feel free to please post questions, comments, concerns, compliments, critiques, wisecracks, etc. in the comments sections below. Also, Mewtwo V-Union (Mewtwo V-UNION (SWSH Black Star Promos) Mewtwo V-UNION (SWSH Black Star Promos) Mewtwo V-UNION (SWSH Black Star Promos) Mewtwo V-UNION (SWSH Black Star Promos)) is just too expensive, and will (hopefully) get wrecked in the mirror match.

P.S. Sorry I used the S.I.R. Gardevoir but I have it irl so... (my brother and I collectively opened under 50 packs and we collectively pulled 3 Gardevoir Special Illustration Rare, I kid you not.)

In my opinion this is just the same as how everyone would play it

I listed several differences, but thanks for being honest, and I made a version with Wobuffet just for you, pokeregidrago! It's weirdly combo-able with Gardevoir EX 😂

Octowen FINALLY another deck (i have been waiting) congrats on deck of day and quite a fun list i must admit. i have not played much against gardevor so idk how this one differs but clearly it's good enough for pokecard.io admins

This is like 1 or 2 cards different at best over the average Gard ex deck. Not sure why this and Mew are getting decks of the day when they are already listed under the competitive meta decks. Wish they would pick something a little more interesting, no offense op.

Can you explain the Articuno over Cresselia choice a bit more? I like Cresselia for its mid-game healing as well as its sniping, while Articuno can only do the latter. Articuno hitting for 120 is nice, but I think most sniping targets (like Comfeys or benched Ralts/Kirlia) don't need that much damage. Articuno also deals regular damage rather than moving damage counters, so it gets blocked by Manaphy. I can see Articuno being useful for early aggression and getting energy into the discard, but that's a different situation altogether.

Internationalmaster I'm glad you're watching my decks, I've been watching your's too! I finally got deck of the day, took me forever 😂

RampageDon that makes sense, no offense taken, I would like to mention here that deck of the day is the deck that gets the most views from that day, so it's just the most clicked, not the favorite.

airco I was favoring Articuno because I haven't had enough chances for IRL battles. I felt that trying to get enough damage on each of your Pokémon would require you to get your Psychic Energy gummed up by being attached to Raltses and Kirlias, etc. However, your point about not needing 120 damage that often is strong, as well as the Manaphy detail, so I think I'll switch.

Thanks for the comments guys!

I REALLY LIKE what you did here! Gonna give it a try!

So I tried your deck and I agree, get rid of the VIP passes. They're useless unless on first turn. Nest balls are much better. Also, I feel Penny is a better option than Thorton. Puts your basic (Zacian V) back in hand to "heal" it.

I would say remove Mew and Manaphy as they're both so situational. Radiant Greninja is a better option and gets energy into discard for you.

I agree with JeunoTheHallowed about penny being better than thorton i use it in my build. as far as the VIP passes i wouldnt get rid of them they are great for turn one and also great for kirla for discarding when you have stuff in your hand you dont wanna get rid of. I would also suggest adding one more Gard ex incase one does get prized also id dropped Buddy catch with Radiant Graninja just for more draw and to get rid of energy in the graveyard. i have been playing mine alot in person and you wanna be able to filter thru your deck as fast as possible. last thing is  there a reason why you dont run a miriam? great way to get your Mons back after they are killed or doesnt hurt as bad if your research them away.

Going to try that Articuno over cress!
