Update 6/11: Removed Shaymin + Psyduck for a 1-1 Rabsca line. Dusknoir has become far less popular, so Psyduck isn't as useful. Rabsca is tough to make work for most decks, but since this is already a Grass deck running 4x Forest of Vitality, I think it's worth it.

Been playing this deck since rotation happened on PTCGL and it's really fun (but also I just love Decidueye lol)!! There's a surprising amount of depth and outplay ability that your opponent won't expect.

Been playing this deck since rotation happened on PTCGL and it's really fun (but also I just love Decidueye lol)!! There's a surprising amount of depth and outplay ability that your opponent won't expect.

You should try this deck if you like:

  • Disrupting opponent's hands/setup
  • Bench sniping
  • Low energy costs
  • Outplay/tech potential
  • Off-meta decks

    ---------------

    TIPS:
  • Main strat: Vivillon's Grand Wing means you can both disrupt your opponent's hand (rare in this meta, with Iono out!) and then remove the entire colorless cost from Decidueye EX's attacks due to its ability
  • Decidueye EX's attack also discards an energy of your choice from your opponent's active 'mon, creating even more disruption! Helps a ton in combatting high-HP opponents from setting up.
  • Relicanth opens up some HUGE outplay potential: Memory Drive lets Decidueye EX use Dartrix's 90HP bench snipe for 0 energy cost. Just be careful, if you have an energy attached, it will still get discarded!
  • Dawn + Forest of vitality sets up stage 2 'mons in one turn! Vivillon's line is also entirely searchable via PokePad, so setting up 2 stage 2's is often easier than you'd think
  • Just like most decks, Meowth EX, Fezandipiti EX, [Shaymin, Psyduck] are great tech cards to get you out of tough spots or combat popular meta matchups
  • Energy cost is low, but evolving is key. So try and go first!
  • Grass is a great type matchup into a lot of popular decks right now

    ---------------

Below is obviously the current build I've felt most comfortable with, but have tried some other things based on my own ideas and the City League results from Japan this year.

If you want try some adjustments, some popular things to consider are:
  • Removing Dudunsparse for a 3-3-3 Vivillon
    • I actually did this for a while but have since returned to Dudunsparce
  • Different ACE SPECs, commonly Max Rod or Secret Box
    • Max Rod is nice but with 2 3-3-3 lines, Night Stretcher can be enough
    • Prime Catcher is just so great for outplays now that Counter Catcher is gone and this deck only has 1 Air Balloon
  • Baby Decidueye from SFA for Cornerstone Ogerpon EX or Crustle matchups
    • Vivillon (esp. w/ a Grow Energy for trading Crustle), Decidueye EX + Relicanth for bench snipes, Dartrix + Ignition Energy, Prime Catcher/Boss's Orders all have served me well in combating this matchup so far
  • Adding a Handheld Fan for more energy disruption
    • I found this less effective than it was worth
  • Adding some Judges for backup if Vivillon is down
    • This originally sounded super helpful to me, but I ended up rarely using it! With a 3-3-3 Vivillon line, Forest of Vitality, Dawn, Poffins, and PokePads, I haven't had any unusual issues keeping Vivillon in play. Plus Ignition Energy can save you in a pinch and brings more utility otherwise

So, one prizer decidueye stays the same? Its interesting, didnt think about it. Ive been thinking about what ace spec to bring, is Max Rod the best option or just average? And I thought maybe Dudunsparce for draw since you're gonna be using Judge a lot, is it viable or am I crazy?

yeah I added the one prizer just to get around ex walls, in theory

my thought w max rod is that mid to late game, losing stage 2's can really slow you down on the prize trade especially because decidueye ex is not going OHKO much at all. max rod + forest of vitality can get you back online fast. prime catcher may be better though. mayyyybe max belt but idk that 240->290 is an important enough damage breakpoint

I've seen some Japanese tournament results with this deck the last few weeks and some throw in a 2-2 dudunsparce.

there's a lot of differences actually, most notably that not a lot of people are running much judge, if at all. I'll be very interested to try this out myself eventually and see how it feels bc this is of course all just guesswork atm haha

i really believe in dudunsparce here, since you'll be using Judge at least once or twice, although theres list that dont even run it.. woah....i want Decidueye to work i feel like it will be at least something agains the meta but we'll see as it evolves there in jp

yeah I think it could be really fun. the stall potential is very interesting, plus bench snipes if you need it. could be a really fun disruption deck, that's really the strength it's gotta play to since the damage is low

also I think what I'm missing most here is running the new poke pad. I'm seeing 4x in most JP decks for this
