Poison Stack Strategy Guide

Win Condition

You’re not racing for raw damage like a turbo deck — you’re grinding your opponent down with compounding Poison damage until they can’t keep up.
The goal:

  • Apply Poison as early as possible.

  • Keep stacking extra counters (Seviper, Toxicroak, Radiant Hisuian Sneasler).

  • Stall or disrupt while Poison does the heavy lifting.

Opening Turns (Setup Phase)

  • Start with Qwilfish / Croagunk.

    • Qwilfish (Sword & Shield) has Poison Jab, cheap setup poison.

    • Croagunk leads into Toxicroak lines quickly.

  • Bench Radiant Hisuian Sneasler ASAP.

    • Its passive ability (“Poison Jab” boost) is the backbone of the stack.

  • Nest Ball / Ultra Ball → prioritize:

    1. Radiant Hisuian Sneasler

    2. Seviper (BUS 50)

    3. Toxicroak line

Goal by Turn 2–3: you have at least one Poison applier and two boosters (Seviper/Toxicroak/Sneasler) in play.

Mid Game (Pressure Phase)

  • Constant Poison spread.

    • Don’t overcommit Energy—many of your attackers use cheap attacks.

  • Switch attackers if needed. Let Poison kill things while you conserve resources.

  • Sky Field: expand your bench so you can stack multiple Seviper/Toxicroak for max counter gain.

  • Boss’s Orders (Ghetsis): drag out high retreat-cost Pokémon to stall while counters tick.

Opponent feels the **** ticking every turn.

Late Game (Closing Phase)

  • By now, Poison is doing 40–80 damage per turn passively.

  • Use Hisuian Overqwil as a nuke:

    • Its “Tormenting Poison” attack can hit huge once Poison stacks are already cooking.

  • Use Boss’s Orders again to KO a fresh benched Pokémon that can’t escape Poison.

  • If you’re behind on prizes → play Iono to disrupt opponent’s hand and buy turns for Poison to finish them.

 Key Matchup Tips

  • Vs. Aggro (Charizard ex, Mew VMAX):

    • Apply Poison early, slow them with hand disruption. They burn resources fast.

  • Vs. Tanky Walls (Snorlax, Zacian V):

    • Perfect for you — Poison damage ignores tanky HP. Just stack counters and wait.

  • Vs. Status-Clearing Decks (Switch, Full Heal, Abilities):

    • Save Boss’s Orders for “sticky” targets with no easy retreat. Force them to burn mobility.

Golden Rule

Always think 1–2 turns ahead: you don’t need to KO immediately. As long as they’re Poisoned and your boosters are live, they’re basically already dead.
