Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX (Chilling Reign) has sort of been trailing behind Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX (Chilling Reign) in terms of performance ever since its release. However, with the help of the new Mewtwo VSTAR (Pokémon GO) from the Pokémon Go set I can totally see this changing.

Shadow Rider Calyrex can put out some damage with its attack Max Geist that deals +10 damage but 30 more for each energy attached to ALL of your Pokémon. You heard me right, ALL of your Pokémon!

So how do we win with this deck? Get all of the energies that you possibly can out onto the field and swing for BIG damage! One way that we can accomplish this is Shadow Rider Calyrex’s ability Underworld Door. This ability allows us to “ramp” up the number of energies we have in play by an additional one each turn. It says we can attach an extra psychic energy to one of our psychic Pokémon each turn and then draw two extra cards! So, not only are we accelerating our energy, but we are also drawing extra cards which is always a good thing in the Pokémon TCG.

The new powerhouse addition to this deck is Mewtwo VSTAR from the Pokémon Go set. This Mewtwo packs a punch with its attack Psy Purge where we can discard our energies to do extra damage! I know what you’re thinking, but Jeb we need our energies for Shadow Rider Calyrex to do more damage! Fear not, because we are running a couple of Ordinary Rod (Sword & Shield) in our deck in order to get back any discarded energies from using our Psy Purge attack. The attack on this Mewtwo isn’t even the best bit though. The VSTAR Power is what really makes this Mewtwo shine! His VSTAR Power allows us to deal 120 damage to each of our opponents V Pokémon! This has the potential to be huge against the right deck running 3 or 4 Pokémon V on the field at one time. We are talking about dealing maybe 360-480 damage consistently with this VSTAR Power across the board.

Another fun little card in this deck is Pumpkaboo (Evolving Skies)  (just in time for Halloween)! Pumpkaboo allows you to bump one of your opponent’s stadiums! This is particularly good for this deck because Path to the Peak (Chilling Reign) really tends to shut this deck down which is why we are also running three Training Court (Rebel Clash).

Lastly, I would like to honorably mention Fog Crystal (Chilling Reign) in this deck. This card is fantastic for this deck because it not only allows us to get our energy into our hand but it also allows us to fill our bench with all of our psychic Pokémon.

If you enjoy ramping up and hitting big numbers, then you will love this deck!
