My friend was thought he was SOOOO smug when he said that I couldn't make a deck without any basic Pokémon in it... but here it is! Talonflame makes sure that you can actually play the game, as well as having a nice consistency attack for the early game. Chandelure is your aim of the game to get out early, using your top-card-of-your-deck manipulation trainers to get Lampent with its Top Entry ability out on your bench. Talonflame makes sure that you can actually play the game, as well as having a nice consistency attack for the early game. Chandelure is your aim of the game to get out early, using your top-card-of-your-deck manipulation trainers to get Lampent with its Top Entry ability out on your bench. From there, use Spirit Burner to get easy damage, and better late-game attackers like Chandelure VMAX, and consistency cards like Magcargo. You'd think that it wouldn't be possible, but it is!

Please note that this deck is not to be taken too seriously, but suggestions are still more than welcome!

EDIT: Official rules say that you need at least one basic in your deck, so I added Shedinja to fill the role. You can't play it anyways, so this deck might as well still have no basics!

Don't the official rules say that you have to have at least 1 basic Pokémon though?

Dawgs-on-top avatar

Noice, but whats the battle compressor for?

CountyGibbon798 avatar

Dawgs-on-top I figured that you could use it with Max Revive, but I guess it's not that necessary. I removed it in the update because I forgot the Top Entry Lampent lol.

CountyGibbon798 avatar

PlasmaFists11 I don't remember anything about that being official, but I may be mistaken. I thought that you only needed a Pokémon that can be used to start a game with. Good observation though!

Official rules do say that you have to have one basic, even if you don't need it. I've seen radiant charizard as the one basic played in luxray decks

CountyGibbon798 avatar

Marco_Ne Alright, I'll add that Shedinja from Vivid Voltage to satisfy the rule, as well as making it so you can't use it even if you wanted to.

Marco_Ne avatar

Smart, then you garuntee to start luxray. Also there's a Pidgeot that is very similar to luxray but searches for any 2 cards, not just trainers. Idk what set it's in

CountyGibbon798 avatar

Marco_Ne Thanks for the tip! I didn't realise that Talonflame was another option, and ten less damage and a bit less HP is a worthy enough tradeoff for even better consistency.

The deck still doesn't work because you need to have a basic you would be able to play, not a basic with a condition that needs to put it in play

CountyGibbon798 avatar

Hella67 Checked the rules, and it doesn't specify whether the card has to be playable or not. "Also, except for Basic Energy, you can only have 4 cards with the same name in your deck. This means you can have only 4 cards called “Pignite”
in your deck, even if they all have different attacks. Finally, your deck must have at least one Basic Pokémon in it." Please tell me if I'm wrong.

Marco_Ne avatar

County gibbon you're right, but I think that if you had a deck with no playable Pokémon, you in would lose because you're unable to play the game. This deck is playable though. Also, nothings stopping you from running both luxray and talon flame to mulligan less

CountyGibbon798 avatar

Marco_Ne Exactly. The only way that you can't play is if the Talonflame were to lose its ability before the game begins, which is impossible as far as I'm aware. Addressing the part about having both Luxray and Talonflame though, I'm weary about the fact that once I start the game, I have no other way to get them into play, and I don't have enough discard trainers to make up for the now dead weight. There's also the issue of deck space. If you have any ideas for optimization, I'd love to know!

Hella67 avatar

CountyGibbon798 the rulings describe you need to have a basic pokemon you would be able to play, not a random one if it has a summoning condition or not, that's why this deck doesn't fundametally work on Live because it goes against rulings

CountyGibbon798 avatar

Hella67 Thank you for the clarification. I didn't really intend for this deck to be played on live, but if anyone wants to, they can sub the Shedinja for some other basic, preferrably one that can discard itself (like Unown perhaps?) I just felt like posting this deck concept for fun lol.

Bro Shedinja is such a hilarious loophole XD

CountyGibbon798 avatar

Octowen Thanks lol! I guess you need another basic aside from that to make your deck legal, but to that I say "Who cares?" because the deck is playable without it, and the game hasn't prepard for this interaction. I hope you enjoy!
