Allow saving incomplete decks

OP

The deck builder is extremely frustrating and fragile because of the restriction that you can only save decks with exactly 60 cards. If you accidentally navigate away, all your work is lost. You should always be able to save decks no matter how many cards they have. In fact, you should be forced to give them a name when you create them and they should be saved automatically every time you make a change.

I tried saving a deck in progress as a package, whatever that means. An alert appeared in the corner saying it saved, but it's not listed in the select package dropdown and the load package button is still grayed out. So I guess it's gone.

I'm going to say that calling it fragile is completely hyperbolic, if I am being honest, and doesn't go far in terms of constructive criticism. I'll always shoot comments like that down since they help nobody.

However, the other points you made are valid. We purposely don't allow saving of decks below/over the required amount since 2020, and you are the first person to complain about it. That doesn't mean you are wrong though. I'll sit down during the week and consider maybe allowing you to save outside that treshold and force them to being unlisted/private if so.

Deck Packages are explained on the deck packages page: https://pokemoncard.io/packages

When you save a deck package, it allows other users to subscribe to it. It then appears in the dropdown. You do not auto subscribe to deck packages you create as users may not want that. Which is why your list is empty.

You can find your own deck packages here: https://pokemoncard.io/packages/mine

Ok I have pushed out an update now and you can save decks that have less than (or more than) the 60 card limit. They will be forced into Unlisted as we do not allow decks to be saved as public when not meeting the deck requirement limit.

Hey, thanks for the quick response. Sorry if I sounded rude. I'm a software developer myself and I'm using "fragile" in the UX sense. One mis-click and your work is gone? That's fragile.

Maybe incomplete decks could be automatically saved in browser local storage.

Also, I don't see anything about packages anywhere in the menus. If I didn't know that URL for my packages, how would I navigate to it?

(Edit: I see it now, under Tools.)

Ah no worries, I've been in the game long enough that I've dealt with a ton of people who just spew rather than give constructive criticism. I thought you were another one 😅

I've updated the deck builder with a small message about deck packages which will hopefully help:

I do like the localstorage idea. Maybe save decks and on reload or navigation back to the deck builder, if the deck wasn't posted it will ask do you want to regenerate it 🤔

The localstorage implementation is now live!

Go to the deckbuilder, add some cards, refresh page, it should ask you to restore or discard. Thanks! Good idea.
